I have two adult children who I adore and am very close to. And yes, I wanted them and loved watching them grow into kind, spirited and self-supporting adults. However, I never considered them to be my primary purpose (or any purpose); they were one of many choices I've made throughout my life. I've had a successful 43+ year career that is a huge part of who am I along with multiple hobbies and passions. I've experienced great joy and great sadness including losing a young grandson to a fatal brain tumor and watching the aftermath of my daughter losing a child. I do not want my children to care for me in my declining years and have made that clear. I have coordinated eldercare for more than eight years and believe whole-heartedly that they should not experience this heavy burden.
