Inflation, particularly the cost of food and gas, cloud people's judgements. If one can't afford to live, it's hard to care about much else. And unfortunately and unfairly (in this case), the democrats will be blamed since they are the party in power. And the drumbbeat of republicans blaming democrats is pretty loud.
